Notting Hill Review

Movie Title: Notting Hill
Starring: Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant
Rating: PG-13 - sexual content and brief strong language. (F bomb a few times)

Year: 1999
Review:
Okay, so I know this movie is pretty old now but as stated I will be reviewing all movies I watch, not just the new ones. Notting Hill came out during a time in my life when watching a chick flick movie about Hugh Grant was the last thing I wanted to do, however I sucked it up and watched it. Cried like a baby the first time. LOL

Anyway to the review: The acting was incrediable, although pretending to be a huge star was obviously way out of reality for someone like Julia Roberts, and even though he had a smaller part, Spike, the crazy welsh room mate stole the show with some of the best one lines. Hugh Grant was his usual rambling self, which we hate but can't help adoring and the storyline was flawless. This movie is now one of my favorites. I have mentioned that real life type movies are not something I love but just for the record I don't consider this one even remotely close to real life, if I did Christian Bale would leave his beautiful wife and come to my town, bump into me at Walmart and we'd live Happily Ever After....not even remotely likely. It does however show A list movie celebraties in a way we don't usual think of them.

Meeting famous people is like a child at Christmas so we tend to forget they have normal lives just like us, when they are hungry they eat, thristy they drink and when their lives are ripped apart by seperating, divorce and cheating partners...the only difference is that they can not suffer in private...the entire world watches them. I really like this movie for many reasons, yet I believe the real message is everyone deserves to be happy and just because someone appears to be in a perfect life, appearances can be decieving.

Obviously from my rantings I would not suggest this movie to a Sci-Fi, action movie buff. However if you need a feel good romantic, comedy this is for you. Great date night movie or just for a time when you feel like a good laugh.

Hope this review helps. Thank you for reading,

Percy Jackson and the Olympians - The Lightening Thief Review

Movie Title: Percy Jackson and the Olympians - The Lightening Thief
Starring: Peirce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Sean Bean (LOTR - Boromir), Kevin McKid (Maid of Honor - Scottish Fiance)
Rating: PG - action, violence, peril, scary images, suggestive material and mild language.

Year: 2010
Review:
From the trailer this movie appeared to be very entertaining and having never read the book I wasn't really expecting anything...aside from at least a good story line since the book was popular enough to become a movie. I was very surprised in a WOW type way. The storyline was very well done, as were the not known actors playing the Demi-gods or children of the ancient greek gods. Some of the gods/mystical creatures are very well known actors and did not disappoint in showing their talents, even though some only had a small role to play. The special effects were incredible and never once did you get the feeling that the actors didn't know where to look or how to respond to something they couldn't really see.

Even though the rating is PG I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes Ancient Greek Mythology, lots of action and a rather good overall feeling. Of course if you like serious action movies the fight scenes will be entertaining, however the tween interaction may become very boring and predicable. The rating is good for children probably pretweens possible 10+...my children 6 and 1 would probably not appreciate it as much as some scenes can be intense.

Hope this is useful to you. Thank you for reading,
Alison

G-Force - Movie Review

Movie Title: G - Force
Starring: Bill Nighy (Known for playing Victor in Underworld, at least by me)
Rating: PG

Year: 2009
Review:
First animovie I've seen this year, 2010, and I was not disappointed. It was funny, action packed and perfect for kids. My 5 year old daughter loved it and never once took her eyes from the screen. For adults, this movie was a great kids movie but doesn't win any awards for being origianl. The plot was good and the end was unpredictable, yet it still held the cheesy kids movie moments that we can't stand but can't live without. If I had to decide between this movie and the Chipmunks, the Chipmunks would win hands down. That being said if you are looking for a good kids movie and the Chipmunks are all gone, this one would be a great runner up.

Love Happens - Review

Movie Title: Love Happens
Starring: Jennifer Aniston
Rating: PG - 13

Year: 2009
Review:
I have mentioned previously that I don't usually go for real life type movies, however with Valentine's day around the corner I couldn't resist a romantic one this weekend. I know this movie was not released this year, 2010, yet I only recently had the opportunity to watch it. Overall I was very impressed with this movie, of course with veteran actress Jennifer A as one of the main characters you would expect nothing less, however it does hold some surprises as you receive not only a very romantic and at times extremely funny movie, there is also pure emotion...that even men may get choked up with. I think this movie appeals to both men and women, however I would recommend this movie only for guys who like action movies if they want a romantic Valentine's day type movie for their significant other...be warned the ladies may cry towards the end.

When In Rome - Review

As my BFF Laycie can vouch, I am not one to watch movies based on real life. It's not that I don't appreciate the achievements people have done I just think life is hard already without watching a movie about it. That being said this movie review is about a semi-real life story.

Movie Title: When In Rome
Starring: Kristen Bell, Jon Heder, Josh Duhamel, Dax Shepard and Danny DeVito.
Rating: PG-13 - some suggestive content

Year: 2010
Review:
Seeing the preview of this movie I instantly knew it would be funny, however once the movie began in the dark theatre I started to worry that all the funny parts had already been seen...like so many great movies, in the trailer. I need not have worried. The movie was funny through out and even threw in some wild antics I never saw coming. About 10 minutes to the end of the movie I did predict the finale but seeing as many movies I do you can't really help it sometimes and I still throughly enjoyed watching it play out on screen.

The main character Kristen plays Beth a workaholic who got dumped a year before, although I don't remember ever seeing Kristen in another movie she did a great job and the lead guy Josh was also great at playing the player/lover interest of the group. I mentioned above that this was a semi-real life movie and by that I mean the basic message of the movie to me was simply, if you never take a chance then you'll never know. The story, although enhanced with the magic and crazy obessesion the guys go through, keeps to the simple truth of without risk there is no reward and we take the journey of truth with Kristen/Beth as she takes the risk with meaningful, humorous and slightly sad results.

If you are in the mood for a die hard, blow up type flick this movie may not be for you, however if you have a slightly mushy side or want a great date movie to take someone too this would be a winner.

First Movie Review of 2010!!

The first movie of this year that I went to see was one that hasn't received a lot of attention from the media and being Heath Ledger's last performance I think should be getting tons more.

Movie Title: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (pronounced Parn-ass-us)
Starring: Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell.
Rating: PG - 13 for violent imagines, some sensuality, language and smoking.
Review:
I can honestly say that this movie is one of a kind. It is very out of this world, but in a good...WOW...type way. The effects are amazing, the acting is incredible and the storyline was good-weird but still had the WOW factor. Prepare to be Amazed!!

Overall I give this movie an A+.

Movie Reviews for 2009!!

Hello Followers,

Being a lover of movies I watch alot of them...and I mean a lot. I'm a member with Netflix and so far without really trying to keep track of movies I've seen, I've given almost 1400 ratings....I've only been a member with them for a few months. When seeing this number today, I decided to give you my views on different movies I watch. There were a lot of movies that came out during 2009 so here is the list of the new ones I saw, out of the 51 I saw, that deserve mention:

Avatar - Best Special Effects

9 - Best Animated Movie for kids 10 +

Alvin and the Chipmunks - Best Animovie for kids (That is what I call the half animation/half real life movies)

Coraline - deserves mention because though it was creepy I thought it was extremely well done and had a great story line that kept you on the edge of your seat until the end.

Fame 2009 - Best Musical

Fired Up - deserves mention because it was really funny and we all have known someone like the main two guys.

Fast and Furious - Best Adrenaline Rush

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past - deserves mention because it was a new take on a classic tale.

G I Joe - deserves mention because it was very action packed, great story line and twists you didn't see coming.

Hannah Montana: The Movie - deserves mention as it was Miley Cyress's movie debut and as much as I can't stand her it was actually pretty good and the songs were amazing.

Harry Potter 6 - of course :) Best Book to Movie Crossover

Inkheart - deserves mention because I think this encourages children to read and I liked the movie better than the book.

Julie & Julia - deserves mention because this story is based on real life and it is amazing that someone would do that and succeed.

New Moon - Best Breakthrough Actor Taylor/Jacob

Pandorum - Best Actor Ben Foster, movie was not the most amazing but he's performance was incredible.

Princess and the Frog - Best Animated Movie

The Proposal - Best Romantic Comedy

Push - Best Fantasy Movie = tons of action and the storyline and acting were amazing they all did a fantastic job.

Race to Witch Mountain - deserves mention because the actors, especially the kids, did a great job in this movie and the effects were cool.

Star Trek 2009 - Best Sci-Fi movie = OME, I watched a few Star Trek episodes growing up but didn't really care that much about it, then I saw this movie and now I want to know everything :)

Taken - deserves mention because I feel Liam Neeson did an amazing, Arnold S, type job. He's bringing back the if you hurt my family watch out theme and I love that.

Terminator Salvation - deserves mention because hello Terminator and Christian Bale in one...AWESOME!!

Transformers 2 - Best Action Movie

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - Best Prequel EVER!! = I always thought that Michael Sheen is awesome and I love his character in these films.

Up - deserves mention because it has everything for kids as well things only the adults understand. Not to mention its really funny...Squirrel :)

Wolverine - deserves mention as it came pretty close to being the best prequel ever for me, yet it lost points for me with what they did to Ryan Reynolds, if you haven't seen it I won't say anymore except it was still an Amazing movie and definately deserves viewing.

Now for my favorite part the WORST movies of 2009, as I see it:

Watchmen - OME, the only good thing about this movie was the storyline and even then the DUMBEST ending I've ever seen.

Adventureland - Sorry Kristen I love you as Bella, but this movie SUCKED so bad. The storyline was pure horror and you know a movie is bad when you want the main character to purchase an AK47 and kill everyone else.

How To Be - Sorry Rob but this movie again had the worst storyline, although I thought that the acting from only Rob was any good.

Prom Night - I know this movie came out a while ago but I only recently was able to watch it. Although the storyline was good, the movie SUCKED and the ending was ridiculous. Kellan, your character had only a few lines but you were the hightlight of the hour and half I had to sit through.

If there were any others you wanted to know my view please let me know. As you can tell from the list I love all kinds of movies, so any suggestions on ones I should see are apprecitated.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!!

Happy New Year 2010 Followers.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. Welcome to 2010!! I've been giving a lot of thought into New Year resolutions that usually happen this time of year and I believe that they can be achieved as long as you keep them realistic. Here are a few of mine:

1) Complete sequel
2) Go on vacation twice (once with kids, once without them)
3) Sell our house
4) Hopefully buy a new house, so we don't have to live with the in-laws for very long LOL

I personally think these goals are achieveable, but like many things I won't be handed these things on a silver platter, I'm going to need to do most of the work myself. I have a great feeling for this year and a positive attitude should help make it one. I pray that all your goals are achieved and wish you all the best for this 2010 year.
